In Mononoke we see the evils of industralization and how humans are killing the earth.
He stated once that he would prefer it if we went back to living in the fields, he wants to get rid of all technology. Story: Miyazaki does not like civilization.
Some will say that Spirited Away is better, but Mononoke is so much more powerful than that. He finally got everything together and made a perfect anime film. When I say that Princess Mononoke is his masterpiece, I mean it. However I find that when he has all of his stuff together, Miyazaki can destroy practically any other director out there, the man is incredibly talented, but his problem is consistency. I do not view him as the 'grandmaster of everything anime.' When I say 'yeah.Miyazaki is ok' I say it not out of ignorance (I've almost every one of his films) but because I personally find him to be incredibly overrated.
Unlike other previous artbooks that contain complete scripts of the films, this book’s black and white portion contains a production journal written by Ghibli’s staff member plus the ending credit.Let me start by saying that I am not a Miyazaki-disciple. At the end of this artbook, CG techniques employed in the film are explained in detail, and 33 pages of layouts drawn by Miyazaki are printed in full colour in large size. When reaching the final battle, an increasing percentage of finished animated frames are printed along with drawings taken from the storyboard. For several characters, line arts are also included. Major events are shown graphically in terms of watercolour sketches, finished animated frames, and background arts with minimal textual explanation. Then it presents a mixture of characters and environments that appear in the film according to chronological order, as Ashitaka ventures westward into the heart of Shishigami’s forest. First, starting with a bilingual prologue, the book showcases 9 poems written by Miyazaki (in Japanese) and printed along with full-page matte paintings of mountain and forest that recall the mood of the film. This volume reverts back to the old setup that makes no distinction between design sections.
